Slut Pride: The Reappropriation Attempt by SlutWalk

    Get PDF
This study examines an open letter created by the Black Women’s Blueprint Organization in response to the reappropriation of the term “slut” in SlutWalk Toronto, a protest march against rape culture. Using Kenneth Burke’s cluster criticism method, it evaluates the effectiveness of this rhetorical strategy through the lenses of race, ethnicity, and socio-economic differences. This study enables those involved in the movement to move forward productively, more inclusively. The research question addressed is as follows, the latter acting as a sub-question of the first: (1) In regards to United States Third Wave feminist goals, are SlutWalks achieving the desired long term outcome? (2) Is the strategy of reclaiming “slut” having the desired effect? Analysis offered insight into four themes: (1) reinforcement, (2) oppression, (3) lack of space, and (4) difference

We Should Search for Life in Mars N. Polar Ground Ice

    Get PDF
The 2008 Phoenix Mars lander mission sampled ground ice at 68N latitude. Mission results, considered along with climate modeling studies, suggest that the site is habitable for life during high obliquity periods. The Icebreaker mission has been proposed to the NASA Discovery program to search for biosignatures produced during habitable periods. This paper explores its rationale and approach

Bond behavior of self consolidating concrete

The new generation of innovative projects has led to the use of greater amounts of reinforcement and the development of concrete with specific characteristics. It is necessary to use a material that ensures the uniformity of the cross section, as well as the adherence of the existing reinforcement, and due to this, the self-consolidating concrete becomes an technique alternative has great potential to achieve these properties. The aim of this paper is to analyze the bond behavior of self-consolidating concrete that was obtained by means of the Beam Test performed within a large experimental campaign of characterization. Four types of SCC were studied with two strength levels (40 MPa and 60MPa) and two different types of granular skeletons, using two specimens at each age (3, 7, and 28 days). All specimens were tested with a corrugated steel bar 10 mm in diameter. The results show that the adhesion tension independently of resistance presents a rapidly evolving at 7 days reached 95% of the total adhesion by 28 days.Postprint (published version

Is The Community Health Needs Assessment Replacing the Certificate of Need?

    Get PDF
The purpose of this paper is to question the need for Certificates of Need at the state level. At the Federal level the Affordable Care Act requires hospitals must justify their community impact through a Community Health Needs Assessment (IRS Form 990 Schedule H) in order to retain their tax-exempt status. Not-for-profit hospitals will save money, time and personnel resources if the CON is combined with the CHNA and all states accept this change, no longer requiring the CON

Myth and Madness in Grupo Galpão's Expressionistic Production of Álbum de família

    Get PDF
A number of scholars have discussed the mythic elements in Nelson Rodrigues’s Álbum de Família, an emphasis present in Grupo Galpão’s award-winning production that was staged in Belo Horizonte in 1990. This essay discusses the expressionistic techniques that were used to articulate the play’s mythic dimensions, particularly its use of Mircea Eliade’s notion of the eternal return, a cyclical concept of human existence. Similarly, the theme of madness as a higher form of consciousness pervades the play, emphasized through expressionistic staging. Because form is so adroitly married to theme in this innovative production, it is entirely worthy of the critical accolades and prizes it received. (JCMA/MN

Design of X-Concentric Braced Steel Frame Systems Using an Equivalent Stiffness in a Modal Elastic Analysis

    Get PDF
In this work, a general method for the design of concentric braced steel frames (CBF) with active tension diagonal bracings, applicable to single- and multi-storey structures, is presented. The method is based on the use of an elastic modal analysis with a response spectrum, which is carried out using an appropriate modified elastic stiffness of diagonal bracings. The reliability of the proposed method is validated through the analysis of significant case studies, making a series of numerical comparisons carrying out time-history non-linear dynamic analysis

Methodological proposal to implement enterprise resource planning systems

    Get PDF
Enterprise resource planning system is one of the most important projects on business optimization than anenterprise could attempt. Their use can be seen at small, medium and big enterprises. Project management andimplementation methodology is a critical success factor mentioned in literature. At this paper is presented aproposal of implementation methodology based on researched literature and the activities that should be donein each phase. It also presented the selection process as other critical success factor and suggestions for futureresearch regarding Petri Nets as a computation intelligence that could be used to simulate selection process
